A Tisket, A Tasket

by Angie on March 2, 2010

baskets2 A blog that’s full of baskets? Indeed. I have an admission: I adore baskets. Baskets of all textures and shapes. Odd ones, flat ones, yummy ones. I have all sorts of uses for them and decided to go on a visual adventure to find some new and intriguing ways to make use of these woven little friends.

Why baskets?

  • Visual Appeal Pier One, Cost Plus, Target, Pottery Barn, Antique Stores, you name it – you’ll find them. Perhaps with handles or without, rounded and wicker or thick and strong. They add texture to your home, and coming in so many colors you can’t go wrong.
  • Organization It shouldn’t surprise you that baskets work well for organization. Under your bed, lined on a shelf in the bathroom, next to your front door for shoes. They can beautifully hold linens, electronics, or magazines. I just love ‘em.
  • Decor Plain and simple I love the way baskets look in a room. It could be a grouping of three under your TV, or displayed in your dining room hutch. Have white walls and are unable to paint? Add texture and spark with some hanging baskets.
  • Entertainment Throwing a baby shower or having friends over for a spring-time BBQ? Perhaps a summer wedding reception with an organic feel? Fill some baskets with the necessary items for your guests (appetizers for the baby shower, napkins & eatery during the BBQ, or smaller baskets with chocolates as wedding favors).

Looking forward to browsing your links, so be getting them ready, until then!

I am a basket freak! It’s hereditary my mother loved baskets and she passed that love on to me. I have them in every room of our house. We use them for everything. I will have to take some photos too!

Well, let’s just say baskets are plentiful around here (and in my classroom). My favorite part is if you find one that is not quite the right color…spray paint! Oh yeah …love me some baskets!!!

How could you not love baskets! They come in so many different shapes, sizes, colors, styles, etc. I use baskets in so many places throughout my home & at work. I love these ideas you have posted. Now for my examples… I had the opportunity to photograph a unique wedding celebration last year & they used different baskets in a variety of ways. I think you will enjoy all the craftyness that went into this event as well. :)

I love baskets! I borrowed a basket similar to the first one you have posted here from a friend (the apartment therapy one) for a shoot I did with newborn twins in the fall and have been trying to find a basket like it to buy ever since! Does anyone know where I could find that particular basket to purchase? Here is the link to how I used it in my shoot — http://audreyhalpernphotography.com/blog/?p=262

Have to admit I HATED baskets till I became a mom of a toddler. Now anything better looking then a laundry basket that can have toys unceremoniously shoved in and still look put together is near and dear for me.

Also how cheap am I that my first thought was \"I bet aperture magazine costs a lot.\"
