Alison Bickel’s blog this homemade life is a peek inside of her beautiful life with 3 boys, gorgeous photography, and healthy recipes. Alsion’s blog will make you want to head into the kitchen and make a healthy meal for your family.

On my blog I share adventures of mothering 3 boys, my love for whole food and vegetarian cooking, photography and other creative endeavors.
I started blogging in 2008 for my photography business, but just started, ‘This Homemade Life’ in January of this year.
A little over a year ago I started writing down all my post ideas and creative inspirations in a notebook. It was full of magazine clippings, scribbled notes, pictures, quotes, anything and everything that caught my eye. At the end of 2010, overflowing notebook in hand, I decided to take the leap and ‘This Homemade Life’ was born.
I am a very visual person with a weakness for art and photography books, cookbooks and magazines with beautiful pictures and writing. Inspiration will strike as I leaf through the pages seeing an image, reading a phrase or even a word that sparks a memory.
I also find inspiration in my children through our simple every days. Their energy for life is contagious and feeds my creativity.
Since starting this blog in January I have been felt a kind of creative energy I had never quite experienced. It has truly become a creative outlet for me to write the stories of our days, share the things that I’m cooking up in the kitchen and to take pictures for myself. I see the fulfillment and creative energy I get from blogging spill over into all parts of my life.
Remembering why I blog…because I love it. It’s very easy to get caught up in who is doing what and thinking maybe you should to. For me, that is the fastest way to a creative rut.
The whole process of creating and publishing a post is rewarding. From the writing of the entry all the way to receiving comments from your readers. I love getting comments. To me, it means someone took the time to read what I’ve written and felt it was good enough to acknowledge.
Make it what you want it to be, a reflection of your personality, what you love, what you do, what you want to say. Be yourself. If everyone puts the same thing out there, what is new and exciting for people to read?
I am drawn to blogs that document everyday life, photography and food. Every morning over breakfast I read Kal Barteski’s blog ‘lovelife‘. She is a Canadian artist that blogs about her “girl tribe”, her art (painting) and everyday life.
Not long ago I came across ‘the little red house‘ and find myself visiting often. I love her photography and writing style.
My other favorites are ‘Simply Stardust‘ (check out her Ireland images), Baked Bree and ‘Enjoying the Small Things‘ by Kelle Hampton.
To continue to grow as a photographer and writer, to always have good, creative content. I’d like to build a good community of readers that come everyday for a good story, beautiful pictures, a recipe or two or a project to do with their kids.
WordPress with the Thesis theme.
The Print Friendly plug-in is one I really love. I use it often on other sites and wanted to make printing recipes and posts easy for my readers as well.
