Come on in and enjoy a warm cup of cider or hot chocolate while we sit by the fireplace and chat about our organized lives. Ok! Stop laughing out loud before you spill that hot beverage all over yourself!
The cooler weather has arrived, and I am sure many of you have already plunged into those attics or closets full of bins and boxes to get out the bundles of warmer clothes. Personally, I love pulling out those cozy, cotton sweaters and soft hoodie jackets that have been hiding, nestled together awaiting their seasonal debut, along with the matching or in most cases non-matching gloves, hats, and scarves. (Note to self- get extra sets of gloves and hats when the sales start)!
Well, today, with some hesitation, I am going to show you my “before” and “after” pictures of our coat closet. It always astounds me how such a little space seems to explode overnight. Somehow, it becomes the “catch-all” closet…GROAN!!!

I knew I had to provide a suitable home for our cozy winter wear. So, I recently went into superhero gear and began purging my closet at lightning speed ( my family and friends will tell you this is nothing new for me…I am learning to sloooowww down…baby steps). Most items went into the trash, others were folded and put away, and the lonely leftovers went in the garage into bags to be transported to our local thrift store.
My advice for keeping these closets, mudrooms, or foyers free from chaos–keep one heavy and one light jacket per family member (unless you are the Brady Bunch) hung by your front door for easy access. I plan on keeping a basket nearby to hold all of those gloves and hats too. Whew! So, here is a peek at my coat closet.

Now, I can comfortably say, “Come join me by the fireplace and let’s chat about our organized lives… just don’t go upstairs to the kids’ rooms! ”
