I loved this quote from Ira Glass so much, the instant I read it, I knew I needed to make a print of it for my office wall. Most of you are creative types. And, I am certain we all harbor self-doubt from time to time. In January, we feel refreshed. We look at projects ahead with anticipation. We are eager to get started and buzzing with excitement.
Somehow though, as our days linger on and we don’t meet the self-imposed expectations we have for ourselves, doubt creeps in. We compare ourselves. We wonder why we started in the first place. We consider whether we should just give up on writing, on photographing, on crafting…whatever it is that we love, but somehow aren’t allowing ourselves to. This print is a reminder for those days. For times ahead this year when your motivation or energy wanes. When you wonder if stopping altogether is the best option–because, after all, you have a million things that are more important to do, right?
Creative time is a haven. Whether you are the greatest in your field, or the least, what is important is that you are doing something you love. That feeds your soul. That gives you an outlet. That brings you joy.
So in the words of Ira Glass — Don’t stop. Don’t give up. Keep going. “You’ve just gotta fight your way through.”
