A few weeks ago we got a call from the H family, inviting us over for Chicken Tacos. Sure this may seem like an ordinary request – but actually it was much more than a simple invite for Mexican cuisine.

Our dear friends were not only opening their home to us, they were opening their hearts.

You see for a handful of years we loaded our then small family of three into the car and drove to the next town over for weekly dinners with the H family. A fave of ours, their Chicken Tacos, became a big hit; and soon we found the evenings of laughter, the echo of children’s voices, the aromas of home-cooked meals a welcome friend.

What happened you ask? Life happened. Babies were born, jobs lost and gained, the hustle and bustle of the every day came in and slowly stole away our nights with the H’s. Did this change our friendship? Of course not. Did we miss our weekly rendezvous? Absolutely, but the beautiful thing about friends such as these is that, no matter the span of time or the distance you’re at – your hearts are always near, your smiles always a welcome sight.

Our recent Chicken Taco evening didn’t end up being Chicken Tacos after all – we devoured a take-out pizza, laughed until our sides hurt, and savored the noises of our children’s deep-rooted friendships. We left that evening feeling refreshed and renewed. With happy hearts we realized that though we may not make it over there on a weekly basis, our connection as friends and as families is as strong as ever.

Do you have Chicken Taco friends? If you don’t, make it happen! Invite a new family over for dinner, get to know one another on a new level, and perhaps you’ll find yourselves smiling ear to ear and anxious for your next meal together.

I love chicken taco friends! I’m so happy to hear that you and your husband and your babies were able to pick up with your friends right where you left off…as if there weren’t even a lapse. They sound like some very special friends!

It’s the best kind of friendship, one where you can just pick up right where you left off no matter how much time has passed. Thanks for sharing.

We have precious BBQ Chicken Pizza friends. For about 7 years now we have been getting together with the same family every Friday night…..mostly for our home made BBQ Chicken Pizza. We enjoy our evenings of fellowship, watching our children enjoy each other, they really think they are siblings vs. friends. We have been pregnant together, gone through rough times together, stayed home while our husbands went to Israel together. It’s a precious blessing from the Lord to have such close friends…family to share our lives with. I highly suggest it!

I was just gabbing with a friend today about how I love my friends I only get to see once in a blue moon but when we do see each other it’s like no time sits in between us:) Those are indeed good friends!

Our family does not do “friend nights”…at least not yet. We moved here to SC 2 1/2 years ago…still working on this. However, I have a friend from youth group about 20 years ago and we have recently connected via WP . It is like we never moved away! Love that!!! Thank you Lord, for Heather!

My husband’s college roomate, his wife & now their baby daughter our some of our closest friends, but we live about 2 hrs from each other. We will go months without seeing each other in person (there’s always FB for updates, thank goodness) but when we do see each other it’s just as you are saying, it’s like there has been no time between us at all. They are family to us & I feel so blessed to have the “B” Family in our lives!
