Last year, my friend Tara, did a photo project that I loved.  She photographed her family (herself included) once a month and wrote about their month.  I was so moved by this series that I decided to do something similar.  I know that I am not alone when I say that it is much easier to be behind the camera instead of in front of it.  I feel self-conscious and am a pain about having my picture taken.  I will delete things if I feel like I look crappy.  It is wrong and I know that it is.  I know that my children don’t care if I am not wearing make up, they love me and think that I am beautiful regardless.  They don’t care if I have put on a few pounds, as far as they are concerned that is just more of me to love.  All they care about is that I am with them and spending time with them.

During the month, I will put my camera on the self-timer and be in the picture.  I want them to remember us when we were all young and vibrant.  I want them to see that we had fun adventures and that we laughed and played and loved each other.  I will sit down and reflect on the month that we had and years from now, I will be able to look back and know that I was the mother than I wanted to be.  I have the pictures to prove it.

That is an awesome idea! I did a 365 self portrait project to get more pictures with my kids and I love the images I ended up with! Now I just have to convince my husband to get in front of the camera once a month…

Oh Bree, both series are wonderful! You’ve become a master at the self-timer! Love this idea from Tara. It IS so important to include yourself in you families album. I find too that often I’m mostly shooting the kids, so I really try to be sure I get my husband in them too. The other day I was shooting a selfie for a different project, and when my little boy jumped in the shot, I just went with it, and caught a cutie.

This is such a great idea Bree! I’m guilty of the same thing, and very rarely am I even in the picture with the kids. When mom’s the photographer you really have to make that extra effort to either use the self timer like you said, or force yourself to put the camera on auto for a minute so your hubby or a friend can push the silly button :)

I so want to do this as well! I saw her project and loved the idea. It is so hard…and I hate it…to be in front of the camera when you don’t feel your best! But…dangit…I want this and I have thought about putting it into a book formations at the end of the year to remember it that way too:)

i loved the idea last year when tara posted about it and i swore i was going to capture my family once a month…it never happened….so again this year i vow to capture my family once a month..nothing fancy..just how we are..and even though for the past 2 months i’ve taken our photos on the last day of the month i can still say i’ve done it..and it’s been fun getting the photo!!

Oh how I love this idea! My children are older and both live out on their own. I would love to do this on our family get together’s. I have few photos of me included. Thank you so much for the inspiration!

    Dear Twelve times lovely,
I love these kinds of challenges… the ones we do for ourselves, for the memories, for tomorrow, for our children… I’m amidst one myself involving the color of each week for a year, a picture and a prosaic discription of the week’s happenings/emotions… it’s a thought provoking project and I relish the introspective moments involved… they aren’t ALWAYS posted ontime but I am sorta keeping up! Yay!

I’ll be cheering you on, Bree!
    Love,
    Up To It In NE

p.s. Your children look so much like you… beautiful.
