Who or what is your primary focus?  (Weddings, portraits, commercial work, editorial, etc.)
I absolutely LOVE working with children and families – but also love to focus on Trash the Dress sessions and underwater photography.

Film or digital?

How long have you been shooting professionally?
6 years

Do you shoot on-location, in-studio, or both?
I do shoot both – I have a studio attached to my home, but tend to lean towards shooting outdoors more than studio.
What drew you to photography initially?
Oh my … well … the birth of my daughter stirred up a ton of new emotions and dreams for me … and one of them was to capture every.single.moment … and what better way to capture something than on film?
Who has influenced your work, style and/or approach to photography?
Not sure … I follow a few photographers but not to a point where they have influenced, I think…
Who or what continues to inspire you most, personally and professionally?
Just life – I find life inspiring! And light – I feel like a light chaser, always chasing that magic light – it inspires me just looking at it!
What do you enjoy most about being a professional photographer?  What do you enjoy least? the most?
Being able to honestly capture a wonderful, magical memory – if it’s of my children or my family or of a clients – it’s so wonderful to know you helped freeze a moment in time! The worst? ugh – hard drive space! I’m ALWAYS running out of it!

How would you describe your photographic style?
Oh boy – that’s a toughie – I’m not really 100% sure – whimsical perhaps? but more real life? Not sure, honestly…

Do you have any formal training or education in photography?
ummm …. no.:)

What camera do you use in your work?  What lens is your most used?  Most fun?
My D700 and my most used lens in the sumer is the 85 mm 1.4, in the water the 50 mm 1.4
In which mode do you prefer to shoot?
Mostly jpg – raw for underwater

Any additional equipment or gear that you just can’t live without?
My underwater casing – my battery pack! and my laptop!!

What program(s) do you use for post-processing?  What is your favorite tip you can share with our readers regarding post-processing?
So far, just Photoshop. Tricks? Tips? Stick with one style instead of going all over the map with actions – your clients learn to love your style and recognize it as ‘you’.
Do you prefer color or black and white images?  What determines how you’ll process each image (or which film you’ll use)?
Colour:)I LOVE colour! The only time I do black and white, usually, is for newborns or sometimes for underwater photography.
Do you ever find yourself in a creative rut?  How do you overcome this?
Not usually – I find inspiration all around me and can hang on the tails of anything inspirational for another fantastic photography-led ride!
What has been the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given regarding photography?
Invest in good glass!
Tell us about your most favorite portrait session, most fun commercial assignment or dream wedding.
I adore whimsy. Anything involving a little sunlight, a little field of flowers, a little imagination … magic is created!
What is your favorite personal indulgence or treat?
AUGH! I love chips and chocolate! (Shhhh!) And Chinese food!
Where is your dream getaway?  And… would you take your camera with you, or leave it at home and enjoy the moment?
Right now – Africa (already been) or Italy. And yes, in a heartbeat! I have never left my camera behind – not even at a sandy beach! That baby goes everywhere with me!!

Find Gillian elsewhere online… she’s a homeschooling mama to four little girls, and is always sharing a fun crafting/baking project on her blog.  She is a Creative Mama for sure!

I absolutely adore GiGi Photography and have scheduled a fall ‘trash the dress’ session. Her style is intimate and emotional that captures the essence of feelings that I rarely see in others.
