WallCanvases

As a pregnancy and newborn photographer I am blessed to meet my clients in an inspirational point in their lives. Not only are they already nurturing their sweet little one in the womb, but they are also preparing and decorating a place in their home as well! There are plenty of challenges during pregnancy, but designing your child’s nursery doesn’t have to be one of them.  With a little help from Serena & Lily, I have compiled a few tips and tricks to make your nursery unique and stress-free.

Zoeblog

Style

First you need to choose your style (not a theme), are you vintage, modern, classic? Maybe you are a blend of all three! Keep in mind that the baby’s nursery is a place where you should feel calm and relaxed too. The best advice I was ever given regarding design was from Rachel Ashwell at a book signing. She said, “In general I have found that pretty things go together, no matter what style they are.” You don’t need a theme before you start shopping, start shopping and pick out what you like and the result will be a sort of eclectic unity that is unique to you!

Focal Point

Second thing to do is to choose a focal point and spend your money there. Pregnancy books ooze with merchandise needs, but most moms will tell you that a baby only needs two things: food and a place to sleep. Regardless, keep the nursery simple by focusing on one item and building the nursery around it perhaps in color, texture, style, etc. And remember that it doesn’t cost a lot of money to make your nursery wow family and friends. Most of the little details and personal touches you will likely be able to do yourself!

Photos

Another important design element I work with everyday is how to incorporate photos. This is a great time to prepare space for your pregnancy and newborn portraits! My favorite look right now is a cluster of four square canvases all together on one wall. It’s a great way to showcase your favorite newborn and pregnancy images without clutter. Lacking wall space? No problem. Precious photos are also displayed well in little nooks around the nursery… on a shelf, a photo mobile, above the door… try to think of places you will likely see frequently and put them there.

my best tip no matter what look you\’re going for would be to paint the nursery long before bub arrives so any VOCs have a chance to off-gas (using low odour or natural paints is also a good idea).

This would be perfect right now. My son\\\’s nursery is still not complete and he is 10 months old. His room right now is a cross between his big sisters nursery and big brothers. I soooo want to make it HIS and this would be most helpful!
