We always seem to remember [or are at least reminded] to be extra grateful around the Thanksgiving holiday. But I want to encourage you to continue your gratitude focus well beyond the holiday season.

The other day, I hopped on this blog via my google reader — A Beautiful Ripple Effect. And there, I discovered Hope Wallace Karney and all the fabulous she has to offer. To be honest, I have a secret crush on journaling and so I was all over Hope’s blog.  Although sadly, I don’t have my own journal right now. Why not? Too many journaling fears, I guess. And maybe too much longing for pretty and perfect [I'm such a sucker for the cool handwriting].  But I think journaling would be so good for me.

I so, so love this ‘I am thankful’ journaling template by Paper Relics.

It could even be a fun project to do together as a family once a week — everybody write what they’re thankful for. And then maybe bind the pages at the end of the year. Or include the pages in your annual family book. Or how cool would it be to do ‘I am thankful for’ journaling at extended family get-togethers…a new family tradition.  What an amazing treasure that would be to pass down to future generations.

I really, really do want to start journaling. However, I think my first step is to start here — Overcoming Your Journaling Fears.

Do you journal regularly?  How did you get started? Did you have fears to overcome? Any advice, websites, etc. to share?

Hope you all had an amazing Thanksgiving, full of love, friendship, sharing and gratefulness.

huh, I didn’t know journaling was suppose to be so creative. I just write in my journal. I write about anything and everything. It’s extremely therapeutic. I never have problems writing for myself. Sometimes, when I open a fresh new journal, I think: I really want to write something amazing in this journal. Something insightful, intelligent, creative. But if I try to sit and think of something that is such, then I would never start writing. So I just start. With any old thing, and let the rest come to me as I go along.

I started journaling in fifth grade and continued up until I started blogging a couple years ago. As my husband and I have been working to “de-stuff” our lives (and household), it seems to make more sense to store my thoughts digitally, rather than on paper. Not as much fun for my grandchildren to read someday, I’m sure, but it’s working for me at the moment.
