Color? All of them….seriously.  I love color.

Childhood memory? We lived smack in the middle of like 100 rolling acres.  We only owned like 10 but our only neighbors were my cousins to one side and cows to the other.  Oh and the old cemetery that sat beside what was known locally as “the old stagecoach road” if that tells you how how this little cemetery was.  I spent just about all day everyday of my Summers just roaming everywhere.  I knew every inch of at least 30 of those acres and even the cemetery.  I loved all of the old gravestones and the cemetery always hit me as lonely and sad.  Since it was so old I suppose there were few, if any, living relatives of it’s inhabitiants.  There were these beautiful clusters of bright pink peonies, a cluster of beautiful wild roses and Tiger Lilies ran the length of the old fence.  Each time one of the clusters would bloom I can remember loving picking the flowers and then giving each tombstone a flower or two.  I grew to know the names on the stones and could even imagine what life must have been like back then. Can you tell I was a child with a big imagination?  Oh and a desperate need for a playmate other than the cows….lol!  But something about growing up with that freedom to explore and isolation truly made me very indepent and the biggest gift….the ability to be completely alone in the world and “ok”with it ;-)

Dessert? So can I answer “all”?  But today the Apple cake wins.  Tomorrow it may be brownies…

Guilty pleasure?

Walking barefoot in my yard.  Ok not in the “weird” way.  One of my favorite quotes says it best: “If I had my life to live over, I would start barefoot earlier in the spring and stay that way later in the fall. I would go to more dances. I would ride more merry-go-rounds. I would pick more daisies.” ~Nadine Stair

Book you have read? Currently…it is hard to chose between: Three Cups of Tea, The Help and The Pillars of the Earth

TV Show? Still hooked on Desperate Housewives…train wreck!

Way to spend a Friday night? Family time watching movies and just hanging out.

What are three words you would use to describe yourself? Outgoing, Upbeat, Loyal

Some random fact about you very few people know. I moved states away from everything I knew a few days after my 19th birthday to be with my soulmate… for the Summer.  My mom used to joke it was “the longest Summer break she has ever seen!”

If you could have coffee with anyone famous (past or present) who would it be and why? Sir Ken Robinson.  Simply put “he gets it”.  Everything that I have given up to give my kids a chance to be creative, unique little individuals and the absolute importance and need for imaginative people within our world. Yep I would really enjoy a good sit down chat session with him.

What or who gives you inspiration? My mom.  She lived with my dad’s abusive ways for years but finally found the strength to get us out of there.  She worked bagging groceries, sewing crafts, working at temp agencies all to just keep us safe, fed and housed.  She did the best she could do, with what she had, where she was at.  She never complained about having nothing and working herself ragged.  We had our issues but doesn’t mean that I didn’t appreciate and love her for what she had sacrificed. Thankful she found her soulmate and had a “happily ever after” up until she died.  Last inspiration she gave me…enjoy everyday because life is always to short.

If you could share one bit of advice for your teenage self what would it be? I wouldn’t change a single thing.  My teen years were a roller coaster ride that will make a magnificent book one day.  Boy do I have some stories to tell ;-)
Oh except I would have told myself to avoid shoulder pads and hand myself a bottle of mouse a bit earlier….lol!

I teared up about the inspiration you mother is to you! Six weeks ago I asked my abusive, mean husband to move out leaving me as a single mother to three little ones. We will sacrifice much, but we will be free, joyful and happy.

I’m so glad to hear you “turned out.” Thank you for sharing!

    Awe! Thanks Missy!
You know I loved my dad but those two together were just NOT a good combo. The best thing my mother ever did was BE the example. It took her till we were teens (I had just turned 13) to get the strength to leave. It had to be the scariest moment of her life. She was all of 5\’ tall, fairly quiet, kind to everyone she met and taught me that you don\’t need a man to change a light bulb or anything else ;-) I was convinced I would never get married…till I met my soulmate. I knew he was the one when there wasn\’t a single thing about him I have ever wanted to \"change\".

Your children will be thankful for your strength and hard work. They may not know how thankful though until one day when they are grown and know a bit more of what it takes to live in this world and the sacrifices you must have made.
    Hugs!
