I’d rather have roses on my table than diamonds on my neck. ~Emma Goldman
It isn’t any big surprise that money is tight for many of us. Spending money on the “un-necessaries” is quite possibly a thing of the past. We have made some changes in our own family finances, but one thing that we’ve tried to keep in place is our own little bit of treat money.
The husband gets a bit and i get a bit. Doesn’t matter if it is $5 one week or $20 – the challenge of doing something just for ourselves, something worthwhile, what a rush! I love seeing what i can come up with each week.
Lately I’ve been treating myself to flowers. I can’t wait until the farmer’s market near us opens up, as the flowers will be much more cost efficient, but for now, I look for the most unique bunch I can find at safeway. This last week I let the four-year-old help me pick and after much thought he pointed to these. If only I had a greener thumb I may be able to name them. To us they’re the “pokey purple ones” : ) Part of the fun of it, is seeing just how far I can stretch this six dollar treat – and I’m proud to say this week four rooms in our home were blessed by this gorgeous gift!
Really it’s nothing big, a bouquet of flowers that will see a most certain end within a week or so – but it means a lot to me. The yummy aroma that hits me as I walk into our bedroom, the beautiful way that little bunch of “pokey purples” pops out at me as i’m doing my writing. Such a simple treat, so worth the little bit of money they cost.
I hope you too have a special way to treat yourself, whether it be with flowers, spending time with your hobbies, or your very own “hour away” one evening per week. Perhaps you have a hard working husband and not much help, or you yourself are the hard worker – it is my desire that you are able to carve away a bit of something that is just yours.
Do you spoil yourself in any special way? If you could, what do you think you’d choose your treat to be?
