Before I share one of the most delicious and easy cookie recipes of all time with you, I would like to say how honored I am to be part the The Creative Mama team. I have been a fan and a reader since the beginning of TCM. I try to live my life simply, with my family as my focus, being creative, and spending as much time in my kitchen as I can. I feel like The Creative Mama was made for me and I was truly touched and flattered when Angie invited me to be a part of something that I believe in so much.
A few weeks ago I was shopping in Whole Foods with my two year old, he was less than thrilled with being stuck in a shopping cart. I went there. I bribed him with a cookie. I went to the bakery and picked up a chocolate chip cookie and broke it in half. We both took a bite and our eyes locked. It was heavenly. What made this cookie different and so delicious was that it was an orange flavored chocolate chip cookie. I went home and kept thinking about this cookie for days afterward. I needed to have it again. The next time I went to my neighborhood Whole Foods I could not find it anywhere. I was crushed. This time I went to the store alone and was so looking forward to a big coffee and doing my shopping with this orange chocolate chip cookie in hand. What is a girl to do? Figure out how to make it yourself. So that is what I did and I am sharing with you my version of this amazing cookie.
The thing about your recipe collection is that it is really just a starting point to create new and different things. You can adjust and change flavors and have something entirely different and new. I love my basic chocolate chip cookie recipe so I used that as a starting point and played with the recipe until it tasted good to me. By playing with something that you already love you can make it even better and have a new recipe to add to your collection.
One of the other things about this cookie is that it is incredibly easy and fast to make. You can get a craving for a homemade cookie and have these in the oven in 10 minutes. The reason why these cookies take no time to put together is that the butter is not creamed, but melted. Could not be any easier.
2 sticks melted butter, cooled slightly (you do not want to cook the eggs)
3/4 cup white sugar
3/4 cup light brown sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon orange extract
1 Tablespoon orange zest
2 3/4 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 package chocolate chips
For the Citrus Sugar:
2 Tablespoons sugar
1 Tablespoon orange zest
Mix the sugars into the cooled melted butter. Add the eggs and mix well. Add the orange extract and orange zest. Add the flour, baking soda, salt and mix well. When combined, add the chips.
In a small bowl, make the citrus sugar. Combine the sugar with the zest and sprinkle on top of the cookie batter.
Bake in a 350 degree oven for 10 minutes.
