This was a much needed read for me. We have been in our house for four years, it was a quick decision buy with the closing falling through on the house we planned to purchase. We had to start over and find a new house all the while knowing that everything we owned was in the back of a moving van (we literally found out the deal feel through as we were walking out of the closing of our old house) so we made a quick decision. We have invested a lot of money, blood sweat and tears into this house and there are many more things that need to be finished than not. All of that said, I can't help but love this house. We use every square inch of it, and it has a charm to it, unlike so many of the typical Florida homes. So today I will pause and reflect on how far we have come, and not how far we have to go.

I must admit, this was a real challenge for me. In many ways, I love my home for its potential, not for what it is right now (sounds like how we feel about our children sometimes). I often dream about my kitchen....someday. Or my vegetable garden...someday. In general, though, there are little things that I love about my home: the little flower vase that hangs on the wall in the dining room, the old windows that let in morning sunshine, the cozy dark wood that gives me a warm feeling. Thanks for inspiring me to reflect on all that IS versus all that may be, in the future.

We built our home from the ground up (literally). My husband helped frame the walls, he wired, he laid harwood, my mother and I painted the entire house. Although I was there every minute that the house was being built, it didn't feel like home until we brought our son home from the hospital over a year ago. I was so meticulous about keeping everything looking brand new. Now, all the baseboards and cabinets have dents and dings exactly the same height as his walker. Like you, I still shower in the same bathroom that I found out that we were going to become a family. I love our backyard that is now completely overrun with toys. I love our home. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts! I wish you the best!

I love the sound that the back door makes when being closed. It looks so rough and we have thought of replacing it, but just can't bear to do it, because we will lose the sound that it makes. It's the sound of all of our friends and family coming into our home!

I love my terracota ceramic tile floors in my Kitchen & Dining Room. They create a pretty little cream colored diamond with a blue design in the corners where they meet. My husband & I installed them ourselves last summer & it was HARD work, but I love walking in & seeing them everyday. They make me happy. =0)
