I'm sad to say my only living grandparent (my grandmother) is no longer able to recognize and interact with us, but oh my yes I do have such lovely and wonderful memories of spending summers at her home as a child. I will treasure my time spent with her for the rest of my life.

My husband's grandmother is a delight. She is the mother of eight and was widowed in her thirties with six children still at home. She is role model of strength and dignity! I love spending time with her because as you said, people of that generation help you slow down and focus on the important stuff - food, family, relationships, history, and quality time.

Have a beautiful visit!

My kids and I just spent Friday in the park with my grandma and my aunts and cousins. We try to get together every month for family dinner. There is nothing better than sitting and listening to her tell stories about her life when she was young and when her and my grandfather were newly married. She too has been a breast cancer survivor for over 25 years now. I love that she is a fighter and a survivor and tells the best dirty jokes. Have fun with your grandmother.

I think grandparents tend to be the biggest influences on us. My mom's parents are probably the two people I am closest to. My Nana was the one I called for everything. She made my prom dress, she made my wedding dress. I was devistated when she passed suddenly, but was grateful for the opportunity I had to be the one holding her hand when she took her last breath. Enjoy the time with your grandma and get as many hugs in while you can! While still photos are wonderful and priceless, so are videos of conversations on days of 'ol. ;) How else are we supposed to pass on an era we know little about other then what we have watched from them? ;)

Such a beautiful post.
We emigrated to the states when I was only 5, leaving my grandparents (and all other relatives) in South Africa. As a result, I didn't get to know them very well. When I was growing up, I didn't think it was a big deal because I didn't know any different; however, as an adult, I'm sad that I didn't get this opportunity. I'm told that I'm very much like my paternal grandmother. How I'd love to have a conversation with her now, or any of my grandparents for that matter. They've all since passed on.

Enjoy your visit with your grandmother -- you're a very lucky girl.

This is awesome Ang! I believe sometimes we are way over scheduled!! This is why I try not to do a schedule for every little thing. We need to be able to make memories too! My inspiration has always been my Grandfather (who passed away a few years ago). He taught us our faith, how important our family is (not just the ones you live with!), unconditional love, and so much more! Thanks for the reminder and enjoy your time with your Grandmother!! :)
