I‘m thrilled today to be teaming up with Mandi of Organizing Your Way to chat with you about a personal goal of mine for the year, taking more pictures. Here you will find a bit of my own personal musings, head on over to Organizing Your Way to see Mandi’s tips for making 2010 a year of great photos!
I talked about committing to the camera quite recently, today I want to encourage you that you don’t have to be a professional, or have a $2000 camera to get memorable images of your children. Truly when it comes down to it, in 30 years, will you be more concerned about the sharpness of the image… or that you simply have the image to hold tightly? In fact, a few of my most cherished photos this year were taken with something other than my DSLR. Oftentimes I pull out my iPhone, our Flip Video recorder, or set up the web cam installed in my iMac to capture our every day life.
Many times friends will say to me “We didn’t have any professional pictures taken of the baby, we’re horrible parents!” I cringe when I hear this because if you look through the folders on their computer you’ll see they have in fact taken hundreds upon hundreds of images on their own. You are the one who knows their every giggle, the way they like their breakfast cooked, the things that make them light up. You be the one the take these moments and freeze them. If you don’t, who will?
Carry your camera around with you, and if that isn’t possible, use your phone! I’m a fan of the photos of every day life and I am trying to be more mindful of this these next 12 months. I hope you will too. In closing I want to share with you a few of my faves taken with my precious phone. Each of these holds a special memory for me, I wouldn’t have gotten had I not had said phone with me.

With the start of the new year, I’d encourage you to keep your mind open and your shutter finger ready. (and be sure to check out the fabulous tips Mandi shares with us today!)

LOVE everyday photos. Those are the photos that will matter most when we’ve all grown old. Thank you for this post.
This past year with both of my grandmother’s passing one month of each other, my sister and I had the priviledge to go through all of their photos, sort them, scan some of them, putting together memoirs, and the best photos were those unplanned, unposed, capturing the moment, especially the ones that were over 90 years old. So everytime a moment is captured now no matter how silly, no matter how non technical, no matter how imperfect, I always think “90″ years down the road my family will have a memory of our time. So in addition to not only capturing almost everything that happens with our family, everything needs to be put into place. As a fellow photog told me, “get those photos off the harddrive and into albums. albums are forever too!!!” xoxo
” You say it’s your birthday, ba dada duh…it’s my birthday too…badada duh…” ok enough of 16 candles…just couldn’t resist!! Happy Birthday dear friend!! Party hard!
