Recently I wrote about the Beauty of Quiet. While I am a firm believer in finding quiet times for ourselves, I am also a lover of the noises in our lives. We all have them – whether you are in college, just married, enjoying the fighting giggling of young children, or the pitter patter of your fur child’s paws.
Whatever stage of life you are in, you’re blessed with a routine of sound that is all your own.
No other person on this earth has the same soundtrack as you. Sometimes I wake to my own noises (husband getting ready for work, dog barking, child snoring in my ear) and admittedly wish for a quieter wake up call. However given the chance I wouldn’t trade it for the world. My days are filled with children’s laughter, the clicking of my keyboard, the hum of the refrigerator, and the occasional sounds of the Xbox. The music that inhabits our SUV has changed from my favorite radio station, to the ever popular children’s CDs; and daytime television rarely sees Regis & Kelly. It’s okay, because soon these noises will change and forever be simply a memory in time.
I want to encourage you today to sit back, even if for a brief moment and savor the sounds of your day. Certainly they are not all grins and giggles – there is bickering, and dogs barking, and the ever-hated sound of traffic. This is okay! This is wonderful in fact. We have been given another day, even more moments, to enjoy with our ears the beauty of noise.
What does your daily soundtrack include? Love to hear about your unique music.

When I came down to the kitchen this morning, I walked over to the radio to get some music going and stopped short. I changed my mind. I didn’t want to hear someone else making noise. I wanted to hear my kids upstairs making their own noise! You are so right. We all have our own soundtracks. I’m going to really try to appreciate mine today! Thanks for the inspiration!
Your soundtrack sounds a lot like mine. Husband leaving at an ungodly hour in the morning for work. One kid snoring in my ear this morning. The dog whimpering to be let out of his crate. I love those noises. Something would be wrong if I didn’t hear those sounds everyday.
Marci, you’re welcome! I save times for my precious music when the kids are sleepin’! Much more enjoyable that way ;)
Rana, I agree with you 110%. If these noises didn’t fill my day, things would definitely not be right – thanks for joining in today!
I kind of already know what noises fill my sountrack; however, I’m going to pay extra attention today, and I’ll get back to you this evening. ; )
Angie, this post made me tear up. Especially this “No other person on this earth has the same soundtrack as you. ” This is my new favourite quote. I love the sounds of my boys playing in the basement, or watching the Cars movie for the millionth time. The dog’s nails clicking on the hardwood and the cardinals wailing outside. My world would feel so different if these sounds weren’t filling my ears each day!
Beautiful!! I do love the sound of my husband and my 2 teenage boys playing xbox together. It makes me smile that they found something to do together that they all enjoy! My music is the xbox, dinosaur movies being played for my 3 year old (and of course dinosaur noices as he plays with his toy dinosaurs!), my daughter playing school or house, our dog barking at a cat in the neighbors yard. And so much more. Thanks for the great reminder and awesome quote by the way! :)
oh, i just love all those terms you’ve coined-”daily soundtrack” is awesome…sounds so much better than “screaming banchees”…
just discovered your blog last week and keep coming back-you share my love for celebrating creativity in our imperfect but beautifully blessed lives. I’m having a creativity blog party this week-and a linky party on friday like your regular linky party. i will have to link up the week after next, then!
Thanks ladies for sharing your soundtracks, isn’t it ironic that the day I write about our daily music – mine would be filled with screaming and tears? :) Our oldest had a nasty fall, and the baby got accidentally whacked in the head with my big ole camera (insert horrible mom feeling). Oh well, they were then followed by the noises of cuddles and ice cream slurps! Fear not, our noises are not always “beautiful” but they are what we make them.
Hugs all! :)
I’m back. Music from my soundtrack:
~ the excitement over the 4 quarters that the toothfairy brought
~ the clink and then the crying when one of those quarters fell in the toilet, as he peed.
~ the clicking of lego masterpieces being built
~the Backyardigans.
~ “Huper Hero!” as my daughter flies through the air, still not pronouncing her S’s
~ the happy chattering on the way to preschool
~ the Backyardigans (again)
~ the giggling in the bath tub
~ saying grace (the 3-year old’s turn)
~ reading bedtime stories
Ang, thanks for making me focus on this!
