Meet Roxie. Darling fur-baby of a friend of mine. I was visiting recently and decided Roxie was due for a much needed photo-shoot. Her tummy was so full that she couldn’t argue if she tried.

It got me to thinking about my own pets and how much (or let’s be honest here… how little) I photograph them. Lately I’ve tried to be a bit more on top of this, but it is easy to only point our cameras at our human kids, and in turn forget about the other kids.

After all, they are loyal (usually), never have accidents (uh huh), and love us unconditionally (this much is true).

So get your pet good and fed, run them wild, and tire the heck out of them.

Then get down low…

… or way up high.

Because in the end the images will be worth more than we realize.

Are you shooting your other kids? Do you have a link to your favorite pet image? Share in the comments, we’d love to see!

I have quite a few pictures of our dog-baby. She’s just one of the kids (we have 7 people-kids and the one dog-baby), and she behaves like it. She’s often right there when I’m taking kids’ portraits, or if I’m shooting the kids playing outside…I’m not even sure she realizes she’s not human.

Angie, I had to giggle when I read this post. I have MORE photos of my fur babies than my two sons! My sons are 24 and 18 and both have moved on out of the house. That leaves me with the four cats and one dog at home. As my camera or camera phone are always near me and so are my pets, they get a lot of camera time. My very post blog post featured them. http://www.mysweetthings.com/2009/08/24/sweet-sadie/

Love these, Angie! Since my pup is my only kiddo right now, he gets LOTS of face time. This is a recent fave: http://www.flickr.com/photos/trudem/5105166280/in/set-72157607489137746/

This is SO TRUE Angie! I was so happy when I did a shoot for my neighbors recently and one of their first requests were to include pictures of their 12-year-old fur baby. She is a big ole gentle giant who is so wonderful with our toddler twins. They adore her and call her Genny, although her name is Genevieve. And this weekend in the gorgeous sunny weather we had I was sure to get a couple snaps of our Lucy with her best pal. Your girlie is a cutie!

    Dear Angie,
Our dog, Dune, is just like one of our kids and he manages to be in a lot our pictures because it’s in his nature to be right in the middle of everything that is happening in our busy household.

Here is a post and pictures from when we got him and how much he has in common with our non-canine kids…

I need to be better about this, I go through phases. I know how much it means to have those memories too as we still have this photo http://andreadawnphotography.blogspot.com/2007/12/our-beloved-sophie.html in our living room and it’s kept our beloved Sophie in our hearts and our minds. Our girls still laugh and talk about all the crazy things she did while she was with us. Thanks for the reminder ang, I shall capture our 2 current fur kids more often.

I love taking pictures of our furkids! Probably helps that we don’t have any kids yet, but somehow I don’t think that will change the love I have for my pets (though I’m sure they’ll miss the amoutn of attention they get now). I adore animals, and mine in particular. ;)
