When life gives you lemons, you put them in a cute little bowl and take their photo. At least that’s what I like to do. The lemons of our lives can come in all shapes and sizes. Could be just a bad day, maybe everyone is cutting you off in traffic, or perhaps something worse – like illness or death in the family.
There are times in my own life that I feel like I’ve been stoned by said citrus. It can be overwhelming. No matter how big or small, I often feel I’m growing my own lemon tree, right here in my living room. It is something I’m working on all the time, and wanted to share with you some ways I’ve been trying to overcome the growing lemon tree in my life.
- Display them. Put them in a bowl, or a vase, or a handmade basket. Take that lemon, however horrible it may seem and choose to make it beautiful. Find the joy in it.
- Cut it open. It isn’t always the case that I’ll put mine on display. There are times I’ll jump right in and use them. By this I mean, I’ll get it over with – whatever it may be that I’m dreading. I’ll cut it open, and get ‘er done.
- Share with a friend. Sometimes our tanks are empty and our lemons plenty. Find a trusted friend, invite them over, and make lemonade. It could be all you need to get through the day.
- Pass them on. When all else fails, sit back and let it pass. Even the most horrid of situations pass and life finds a new balance. The lemons do eventually go bad, just give it time.
Have you had something in your own life that feels trying? How do you deal with the lemons in your life?
