If you know me at all, you will know this is something near and dear to me. I learned to knit and crochet as a child. By the time I was 9 I had mastered an intermediate sweater vest (with complex lace detail). Although I ended up loathing the hours I was sat down to knit as a child…today I can’t be more grateful for the gift my mother gave me. I picked up the needles and yarn more than 20 years later (eww, totally dated myself) and haven’t put them down since.
One day I combined my two loves, photography and knitting and designed the original knitted Cocoon for newborns. I quickly became obsessed with high end, hand spun and hand dyed yarns from all over the world, and produced OOAK (one of a kind) Cocoons for photographers. Eventually both my businesses got busy and something had to give. So I stepped down from the Boutique and focused on my photography business.
Just because I am not selling anymore does not mean I have stopped creating. I almost always have a project going and the winter months seem to make the need to knit even worse! Since I have regained my love for yarn I have found a desire to delve into the other possibilities with the wonderful world of fiber. I have been felting (nuno, knitted, and needle), dying, spinning, knitting and crocheting. I love it all and wish I had endless hours to just make everything that comes to mind.
Today I thought I would feature yarn & fiber goods, kits and supplies. There is something here for everyone. Most of the pattern designers sell already made goods if you are not the crafty type, and for those that want to play with a new idea, or give the gift of a kit…there is plenty here to choose from.

Oh good heavens Marta! As a beginner knitter I’m ansy to teach myself anything! Question for you: what are some great sellers for finding lovely yarns and fibers?
Beautiful, thanks for sharing!
I remember your cocoons…gorgeous. My mom and sister-in-law knit everything under the moon. My sister-in-law dyed some of the kids yarn with kool-aide and then knitted them both some gorgeous hats and gloves. I always buy her yarn so that she’ll keep bringing them handmade gifts. My mom also has given my children so many wonderful blankets as well.
Thank you all!
@Angie, well the two I listed I have bought from, but I have a laundry list of sellers on Etsy. The best thing to do is search “Fiber Art Yarn” on there and you will find a good bit of the cool crazy ones, or “Bulky Hand Spun Yarn”, some of my favs are out of stock right now for the Winter break.
I wish I had the staying power to be good at something creative! I sure have an itch for knitting right now!
What a great post – I just started knitting (I knitted my first hat for my son born two weeks ago) and am hooked! ;)
Oh how delicious do these yarns and fibers look, I ask? I will keep to admiring it only with my eyes as I cannot afford nor do I have the space in my tiny home to take on another hobby. Especially one, if I learned to do it well, I know for certain would take over my world. LOL
I really like that. The yarns are beautiful. I really wish I could knit and it is something I would really like to learn to do in the very near future.
Yes…delicious is the perfect word! I might have to bust out my needles again!
Wow, those are inspiring! If only I had more time to devote to new hobbies. This would certainly be on my list of things to try!
