Isn’t this space dreamy?  When Angie asked me if I would be interested in taking over the Your Creative Corner feature, I selfishly said yes.  I knew exactly who I was going to ask to do my first one.  I adore Ashley’s blog.  She is an amazing DIYer that has a space to die for.  Check it out.

ashely campbellashley campbellashley campbellashley campbellMy creative space is not a glamorous studio, but simply the combined open space of my living room and kitchen. It is where life happens for our family and in return is where I often find the most inspiration. Our concrete kitchen table, built by a friend, is the center of action in our home. It is not only where we share every meal, but it also where we get messy being creative together. In the absence of a separate studio space I have to find ways to easily hide all my tools and supplies.  Vintage tins and a thrifted filing drawer cabinet hide most items. When I am writing my blog or editing pictures you can find me sitting on a nearby in the living room. My desk (also known as my lap) is surrounded by pictures of our family and often four small children pretend sword fighting nearby.  Though I would love a space dedicated to creative projects and photography, I am thankful for what the lack of one provides. My ‘studio’ rarely stays a mess since most of my family would prefer not eat with craft supplies next to their forks! When I want to work on a project it often means I must find ways to get my kids involved with something similar nearby. They will grow up with memories of working alongside me on projects and for that I am grateful. My creative space is filled with the sounds of life…the pleasant and not so pleasant. It is where I live out the daily stuff. And it is the daily stuff that inspires me and reminds me that right now being a mom is my most creative work.

With a love for hardware stores, art supplies and photography, Oklahoma resident Ashley Campbell prefers country roads to city streets. After stepping back from the professional side of photography, she embraced other creative outlets and chronicles those on her blog, Under the Sycamore. In the midst of raising 4 young kids who create wonderful (but messy) chaos, Ashley uses photography as a tool to celebrate the not so glamorous moments in life. She aims to encourage her readers to pick up their cameras and document the little things that make up their days. She loves to help others celebrate and find wonder in the regular. Believing that creativity is essential for her as an individual, as an artist and as a mom, Ashley hopes to inspire others to find time to pick up their camera, their craft supplies and get a little messy celebrating everyday life. Ashley is a monthly diy contributor on Design*Sponge and Design Aglow.  You can also find her projects on Apartment Therapy, NBC New York, Women’s Day, PetaPixel CafeMom, The Sweetest Occasion, PoppyTalk, Craftzine, Curbly, Readymade and numerous other design publications.

Do you know how many hours I’ve drooled over Ashley’s blog? :) I have at least ten of her projects bookmarked to try out soon. (Ahem, pallet reading bed.) What a wonderful feature! Ashley, you have a gorgeous, light, airy space filled with everything you love, especially the most meaningful of things. I can’t think of a creative space any more perfect than that.
